PURPOSE:
To provide DMV personnel with instructions on when and how to issue Multi-Use (60 day) license plates after the vehicle has been titled.
BACKGROUND:
A 60 day Multi-Use license plate is a temporary cardboard plate which should be issued when a customer requests metal license plates that are out-of stock.
CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS:

- Submit the appropriate registration application:
- "Application for Registration" (VSA-14) or
- "License Plate Application" (VSA-10)
- Pay the appropriate registration fee, reserve/personalized plate fee, if applicable and local vehicle registration (LVR) fee, if applicable.

DMV SERVICE PROVIDER'S PROCESS:
- Verify that the customer has completed the appropriate application correctly.
- Verify that the following conditions exist:
- Vehicle is titled in Virginia.
- The special metal plates requested by the customer are not in inventory.

- Collect the appropriate registration fee, reserve/personalized plate fee, if applicable and local vehicle registration (LVR) fee (refer to VLIC-314), if applicable.

- Record the plate series requested on the application.
- Process according to data entry procedures.
- Issue a set of Multi-Use (60 day) license plates. Use a black permanent marker to record the following information:
- Issue the registration card to the customer that displays the temporary tag number at the top of the form and displays the plate ordered at the bottom of the form.
NOTE: The customer should verify the registration card to ensure the vehicle information and the plate information to be ordered is correct.

- Advise the customer that metal license plates, new registration card and decals will be mailed within 4 weeks.
