NDR

The National Driver Register (NDR) is an electronic system that contains a listing of names and related information (provided by states) of drivers whose privilege to drive is canceled, denied, revoked or suspended or who have been convicted of certain serious traffic violations.

The Commercial Driver's License Information System (CDLIS) is also an electronic system that contains a listing of names and related information provided by states of persons who have a CDL or had a conviction in a commercial motor vehicle.

DMV is required (by federal law) to perform a National Driver Register (NDR) and Commercial Driver's License Information System (CDLIS) inquiry on ALL licenses or permits issued (original, duplicate, reissue) or renewed. When an inquiry results in a possible match, the system prints a message indicating the match along with the driver's identification data, state of record information and the driver's adverse data (orders and convictions). The CSC should determine whether the customer is the same person, and either complete the issuance of the license or reject the application as appropriate.
